Mighty Mabel

Meet Mabel

Mabel’s life brought laughter, smiles, and joy to all who knew her (or met her randomly in the grocery store). Mabel Elizabeth, meaning “lovable” and “pledge to God,” fit her beautifully as she lived out her earthly commission by being beloved by many while spreading her infectious joy to those around her. Mabel loved her big brother Mattox fiercely and copied everything he did. She was a busy-bodied girlie-girl who loved putting on make-up, jumping on the trampoline, and mimicking mommy by playing in the kitchen and using her creative gifts to enjoy any art project she could get her hands on. Mabel’s safest place was always in her daddy’s arms and she was never far from her mommy’s side, they were constant companions. She was a “heart warrior” who overcame medical obstacles as an infant, and her tenacity served her well as she excelled in accomplishing every goal set before her both in school and in therapy.
Mabel’s sweet, magnetic personality drew people to her like a flower draws a bee. Bees accomplish so much in their short-but-sweet lives, visiting 50-100 flowers daily, collecting nectar and pollinating. This was Mabel, collecting experiences and sharing the goodness of her life.

Mabel’s sweet life came to an end after a tragic accident on March 27th, 2022. After 10 days fighting in the hospital, her little body sustained too much damage to keep her shining on this side of heaven. She was healed as she entered heaven on April 5th 2022. She experienced 1440 days on earth living an extraordinary life… and her story is not over.

Be Like Mabel

Be Creative: Mabel loved to create! Allowing her imagination to run wild, the act of creating something new out of seemingly unconnected pieces gave her such joy. The gift of creation is God’s invitation to open our eyes and keep them open – to see the beauty in everything, and the knowledge that even when life is in pieces, it will be made whole again in time.

Admire Beauty: Mabel loved getting her hands dirty in the garden, helping to water plants, and picking flowers in the yard.  She truly appreciated the beauty and was intrigued that something new had grown overnight. During the dormant months, dirt can seem barren and hopeless. But underneath, seeds and bulbs are being prepared to burst forth with beauty and new life. Though the period of live feel dormant, we can take solace in God’s promise that there will be beauty in the next season.

Be Playful: Mabel loved bubbles: popping them, chasing them, using them in therapy. Bubbles are beautiful and mysterious. You never know how far they will float or when they will pop; bubbles remind us to enjoy life’s best moments, because we never know when it might end.

Be Silly: Mabel loved to DANCE! No one danced more exuberantly or with such abandon. May we all strive to be like Mabel – living our lives in a way that prioritize joy.

Be Better: because of Mabel
